The Concert of Friends Event
Have you ever seen the Grammies or the Dove Awards? Ever wish you could be there to watch in person. Well, here in the Kansas City area, many had that chance to experience a close up view of talented Christian music and artist recognition on April 26, 2008, at Mid America Nazarene University in Olathe, Kansas. Guests came from as far as Canada, California, and West Virginia and enjoyed a day filled with Worship and Songwriting Clinics, Songwriters Concert, Pre Show Gala, and ended with a concert and awards show.
The workshops started at ten in the morning with a meet and greet. It was great to see artists from around the country networking and getting to know each other. Top clinicians like Sue Smith from Write About Jesus, Troy Kennedy from New Worship, and KCCM’s own Kenny Gamble taught classes on worship and songwriting. The classes took a break to enjoy a lunch with a concert by their fellow songwriters. Wonderful original tunes were heard and everyone took another step up in their music ministries.
Before the big show started, everyone gathered in the industry to feast and network. Along with wonderful food and music, M/I Productions led a game of networking bingo. This enabled people to feel like they had permission to get up out of their seat and meet someone new. The crowd had a lot of fun and bingo was a big hit. KCCM definitely wants to make this an annual networking game at the Gala.
When seven o’clock rolled around, it was time for a show packed with music from the artists hand-picked by King Cat Music. The night was lit up with music from genres like Rock, Gospel, Choirs, Instrumentalists, and many more. If you were there, you would have heard the sweet melodies of Lester Estelle, Ron Richards, and Charles David Smart. You would have also enjoy the Classic Rock of AZUR, the Gospel harmonies of His Refuge, and the Rockn’ edge of Farewell June. In the end, it was an electrical evening and everyone is already talking about next year.
The KCCM Awards has been created to lift up and encourage artists in the Christian music ministry. Artists promoting artists is what you will see in this event. This event is now going into it’s ninth year and has proved to be instrumental in networking the music industry in Kansas City and beyond.
